They will often try to move forward in a group but these growls are reminders of where they rank. The omega wolf is the lowest ranking one of all in a pack. In the eastern woodlands, the gray wolf is also known as the "timber wolf," and in the arctic, the gray wolf is sometimes called the "arctic wolf."
